Instructor: Ms. Zaleski

A study of singing, acting and movement, this course is designed for students who want to perform musical theatre and will be graded on their effort and improvement of skills. Solos, duets, and group numbers from a variety of musicals will be learned, and students will perform several scenes from musicals. Some class time will be devoted to vocal technique, group dance numbers where students will be able to develop their own choreography. This course will include history of musical theatre in America. Experience in each discipline is not necessary, as long as there’s a willingness to try!

It is the mission of the Newburyport Public School Performing Arts Department to provide every student the opportunity to engage in the appreciation, creation and analysis of multiple performing arts modalities. We will provide a 21st century education through embedding technology in each performing arts course, while focusing on the connection with the physical body, voice or instrument. Through culturally sensitive instructional practices, students will experience the performing arts as relevant to their multiple intelligences. Whether students pursue the performing arts at a post-secondary or professional level or engage in it socially, we aim to instill a lifelong advocacy for the impact and power of creativity.
