MOVIE MAKING

Instructor: Mrs. Williams

PREREQUISITE: ANY previous Video, Theatre or Writing Elective at NHS

Students in this class will work together to produce a feature-length film. Each student will select a particular focus: acting, directing, writing or production; however each student will have the opportunity to experience all aspects of the process. Students focusing in production will be expected to be comfortable with film, lighting, sound and editing (Adobe Premiere Pro) equipment/software. In this course we will start at the writers table and see a feature length film from its initial stages straight through to the “world premiere.” Students in this class will be expected to out of school time in order to complete the film. Students in this class will frequently be expected to work on the film outside of class, as well as projects for the school and greater community. These projects will serve as portfolio building, and will be a part of the students’ overall grade in the course.

It is the mission of the Newburyport Public School Performing Arts Department to provide every student the opportunity to engage in the appreciation, creation and analysis of multiple performing arts modalities. We will provide a 21st century education through embedding technology in each performing arts course, while focusing on the connection with the physical body, voice or instrument. Through culturally sensitive instructional practices, students will experience the performing arts as relevant to their multiple intelligences. Whether students pursue the performing arts at a post-secondary or professional level or engage in it socially, we aim to instill a lifelong advocacy for the impact and power of creativity.
