DANCE

Instructor: Mrs. Williams

Course meets Mondays 4:00-5:30pm

Students will learn and employ the techniques and style of the major dance forms while learning combinations in the following genres: Swing, Latin, Tap and Hip Hop. Students will explore the elements of dance and learn to develop their "critical eye" and appreciation for dance art. Students will be given the opportunity to choreograph their own pieces for class and for performance. Dance I fosters self-expression, creativity, dance technique, and performance skill. No dance experience is necessary, but trained dancers will be challenged and are encouraged to take the course.

It is the mission of the Newburyport Public School Performing Arts Department to provide every student the opportunity to engage in the appreciation, creation and analysis of multiple performing arts modalities. We will provide a 21st century education through embedding technology in each performing arts course, while focusing on the connection with the physical body, voice or instrument. Through culturally sensitive instructional practices, students will experience the performing arts as relevant to their multiple intelligences. Whether students pursue the performing arts at a post-secondary or professional level or engage in it socially, we aim to instill a lifelong advocacy for the impact and power of creativity.
