CHOIR

Instructor: Ms. Zaleski

Class meets Mondays 2:30-4:00 in the auditorium.

Makeup day for Monday holidays is usually Thursday (see below).

Scheduled as needed for extra help, sectional rehearsals, or special ensembles.

Choir offers a variety of learning experiences for people who enjoy singing. We will work on music of various genres and time periods, including modern popular music. Some ensemble work will be included as well as solo opportunities. Open to singers of all abilities. Qualified students may also participate in Varsity Choir, school musicals, district music festivals, and All-State.

Flex class contract must be signed every year.

Members of the Choir sing at the holiday house tour 2015:

Alison Russell, Hannah Rikeman, Anna Moore, Ari Sawyer

Students in Choir are graded on attendance/effort, vocal skill/improvement, and teamwork. We’ll have singing assessments in small groups and short written reflections. Our class time will focus on preparation for concerts and improving necessary skills such as breathing, posture, diction, tone quality, blending, and pitch.

Daily procedure is to sign in on the attendance sheet, grab the music for the day, and go to the assigned section on the risers. All sheet music is passed in at the end of class. Students may borrow music anytime to practice at home, but it must be returned by the end of the semester. Above all, students are expected to participate to the best of their ability at all times.

School concerts are mandatory:

December 12 at 7pm

May 18 at 7pm

May 30 waterfront festival 10am-4pm

If a student misses a performance for a reason other than sickness or an emergency, the grade will automatically be lowered by 20%.
